New case study

We’re excited to share a new case study from the University of Hertfordshire. Implementing change in a large, complex organisation bustling with busy, independently-minded individuals can be quite the challenge. How do you ensure that people are not just engaging with new tools and methods of working, but also using them effectively?

The university has been leveraging both our digital experience insights and building digital capability services for several years. They’ve shared their journey towards building digital skills and confidence for their students and staff. We invite you to read the full case study and discover their inspiring journey.

Spotlight report: exploring insights into digital poverty

Shining a spotlight on our recent exploration into digital poverty, we had the privilege of presenting at a QAA Scotland webinar on this critical issue on 21 March. Post the event, we took a deeper dive into the data from the 2022/23 academic year, collected from higher education students, to uncover what insights lay beneath.

Our findings are based on the definition of digital poverty provided by the Digital Poverty Alliance, which adopts a comprehensive perspective. Our exploration revealed that certain demographic groups face more disadvantages than others in various aspects. Furthermore, we found that students feel significantly impacted if they are unable to access digital education, which they perceive as a cornerstone for future employability. This spotlight report showcases the versatility of our data. And of course, we’ll be continuing our examination into this aspect in our 2023/4 survey reports, set to be published this autumn.

  • QAA webinar recording - Please note that we revisited the analysis of the qualitative data after the webinar to reflect the broader DPA definition and include aspects of support and skills development
  • We invite you to read the full spotlight report to gain a deeper understanding of our insights into digital poverty

An opportunity to get involved in shaping our 2024/25 question sets

We’re thrilled to extend an invitation for you to participate in shaping our 2024/25 question sets. Each year, we meticulously review our question sets to ensure we’re asking the right questions, using the most effective language, and focusing on the current challenges. All the while, we maintain a robust core of questions that allow you to track progress year-on-year.

Our co-design approach, which involves subscribers, sector experts, and stakeholders, has been instrumental in keeping us relevant during these challenging and ever-evolving times. Last year, for instance, we introduced questions on AI and cost of living, incorporated questions from the pilot survey of international students, and refined several questions.

Come early June, we’ll be hosting a series of online review and co-design sessions. If you’re interested in being part of this exciting process, please reach out to us at help@jisc.ac.uk with DEI Q-set review in the subject line. We look forward to hearing from you!

Share, collaborate, and discuss via our new DEI Teams site

We’re thrilled to introduce our new DEI Teams site, a platform exclusively designed for our subscribed organisations. This site is a hub for sharing effective practices, solving problems, and fostering collaboration among service users. It also serves as a forum for discussing group challenges and special interests, which will be instrumental in shaping our service development.

All you need to do to join the site is complete our registration request form. Once done, our community facilitators will reach out to you, extend a warm welcome, and provide access. To help you navigate the site, we’ve prepared a welcome pack that covers everything you need to know. We can’t wait for you to join us on this collaborative journey!

Survey closure dates

We’re delighted to inform you that our student and learner surveys concluded on 26 April. The benchmarking data is now readily accessible via our online surveys platform (do check out our guide for analysing your survey data). We’re thrilled to share that we had participation from 39 HE organisations with over 28,000 responses, and 22 FE organisations with over 7,700 responses. We’re currently working on a comprehensive report and look forward to sharing our findings in September.

As we move forward, our attention now pivots to the professional services surveys (closing on 21 June) and teaching staff surveys (wrapping up on 28 June). We strongly encourage our staff to participate, ensuring their experiences are acknowledged and their voices resonate. We value your input and look forward to hearing from you!

We’ll be focusing on the data maturity elements that are closely tied to our digital experience insights surveys. We look forward to your participation in this insightful session!
